Stationary & Floating Docks

Stationary Docks

Stationary docks (piers) are supported at a fixed height above water level by posts at each juncture of modules. They remain at the same level regardless of water fluctuations. The docks need not be permanent; they can be removed and reinstalled depending on site specific needs and considerations. Stationary docks are appropriate for many ponds, lake docks, rivers, and more where water levels don’t fluctuate too much during active season and bottoms are not too deep or soft.

In terms of fixed vs. floating docks, we usually recommend going with a stationary dock if normal fluctuations are less than a foot or so because it is by nature more stable, less expensive, and easy to install. This makes it ideal for most residential lake piers and many pond docks. Exceptions (in addition to higher fluctuations) are boggy bottom conditions, extreme depths or slope, and personal preference. The best dock depends on your individual circumstances.

Posts fit through sleeves on the brackets that go on the corners of the stationary pier modules. The legs are tightened with a set screw and sit in foot pads on the bottom. Unless specifically desired, posts do not penetrate the bottom and can be used with pond liners.  The post can be fitted with an optional post cover, a bumper, or just a cap at the top.

A lot deeper than many people think.  Mod-U-Dock’s frames engineered for stability.  It also depends on the design configuration used, and cross-over supports are an option.

Maintenance-free modules require no painting or staining.  They do not rot, warp, chip, or splinter, and are stain resistant. They are non-porous and easy to rinse.  They are also impervious to insects. While the decking is fine in salt water, we do recommend our optional e-coat for frames with saltwater exposure.

Mod-U-Dock solid pattern decking and side materials carry a lifetime limited warranty when used in a residential application and have a 50-year commercial warranty. The open tread decking has a residential lifetime limited warranty and a 20-year commercial warranty.  There is a 15-year structural warranty on frames and hardware.

If for any reason the pier is damaged (i.e. act of nature, tree fall, vandalism), it can be easily repaired – from a single piece of decking to a whole module in more severe circumstances.  The modular construction localizes severe impact damage.

Modules come in a variety of sizes and can be fit together to make different dimensions and designs. Modules with solid decking are about 7.25” high; with the open tread they are seven inches high. A 4’ x 8’ module in standard solid decking is about 150 lbs, while in the open tread decking it is about 120 lbs. A 4’ x 6’ module in solid decking is about 120 lbs; in the open tread it is about 90 lbs. Each 4’ x 8’ frame is structurally engineered and certified to support a minimum 2000 lb uniform load when supported on the corners alone.

Dock modules remain cool to the touch, even in extreme temperatures.  They are free of protruding surface fasteners (nails and screws), and ADA compliant for slip resistance.  Recyclable and non-toxic, they are an environmentally friendly choice.

Floating Docks

Floating docks are buoyant and rise and lower as the water level changes.  They are used where water fluctuations are higher, for excess muck or boggy bottom conditions, with greater depths or slope, or where desired by preference.

Mod-U-Dock floating docks use the same premier modules as the stationary docks do, but are fit with float brackets underneath. The floating modules are attached to each other using brackets on the corners. High quality commercial-standard Ace floats attach underneath.  Floats are a rotationally molded polyethylene shell filled with expanded polystyrene. They carry a 15-year warranty and have certified tank tested buoyancy ratings.

Floating docks can be anchored in a variety of ways: with gangways, hinge kits, pilings, cable, anchors, or stiff arms. The best method to use will be dependent on individual circumstances and owner preference.

Mod-U-Dock has convenient screw-in, removable pilings that work with mud, clay, or sand bottoms.  Typical pilings are 2.375” OD x .134 wall high tensile galvanized tube.  A 24″ pipe wrench can be used for the screw-in pilings.  Tops are fit with piling caps or optional telescopic piling covers.

We also have brackets to attach to existing pilings of differing sizes.

We have winch brackets that let you make adjustments from dockside.

Finally, we can work with your stiff arms or provide them.  Our adjustable stiff arms can fit a variety of circumstances and can be custom ordered.

Gangways and gangway ramps come with handrails are typically available up to 40 feet.  Widths range from three to eight feet.  Longer lengths may be accommodated with custom design.

Mod-U-Dock can provide custom shore attachments based on topographic features and to meet up with existing structures such as decks, stairs, etc.

Mod-U-Dock floating docks have dual 15-year structural and flotation warranties. Solid pattern decking and siderail materials carry a lifetime limited warranty when used in a residential application and have a 50-year commercial warranty. The ss-style open tread decking has a residential lifetime limited warranty and a 20 year commercial warranty.
